Watt(1963) suggests that analytic thinking followed the acquisition of written language, since it was the setting down of speech that enabled man clearly to seperate words and ideas and manipulate them. Writing permits one to reflect upon what other people around have proposed, since your memory can process afew chunks at a time speech can't do any good, but jus to shoot the breeze!!!
