I hope that those thousands of English Language graduates in Iran  who are memebers of Cloob and claim to be teachers or linguists or translators have a glance at their own club, namely Modarresine Zabane Englisi

it is kindda odd to see English teachers so quiet! ain't the chatterboxness an essentiality for becoming a teacher??

Well I ain't sure English Graduates are what we need here! All due respect but not many worthy teachers are among them.

Dear Moslem

I think as this club is by nature somewhere to discuss about serious issues and we dont let those rubbish discussions enter into this club we have to expect such silence among the members.

Here is Iran and most people prefer to pass their time for fun... and not to think about their jobs and their responsibilities  

I think that most teachers who are teaching English or a foreign language have learned how to teach by experience and don't tend to learn from other people or books.

There are only a few people who love their job whole-heartedly and want to be innovative and creative in their jobs.

Unfortunatelt this is the existing fact... though we have to try to change this boring atmosphere.

We can bring some of the problems that we face in the class and ask eachother's ideas about it and see which way is the best to solve that matter.

I do agree with you. You are right. But it seems that we are just 4-5 people who visit the cloob.

 I started some discussions, but nothing special happened. Books reviews, Early bilingualism, , quotations and the like... but....

 

Well, if you have anyhing special in your mind, plesae share, open a topic for it.

 

Wish others read your comment and do something!

how about an english-talk  gatherin or meetin for teachers?and students here?!,,althought im not a teacher,,just intrested so much in english~~~~

Hello everyone,

My name is Hossein Mehrara and I'm glad to be in here. So far  i'd been busy so i couldn't come and participate in topics.

Any way, I was Wondering if there is any topic regarding downloading helpfull books according to requests.

there is a library ( cloob libraray) but it seems to be a place to Introduce new titles.

P.S 

I'm going to create that Topic plz activate it if there's no such topic.

Sounds to be a cool place with considerate guys already signed up ! but I aint think much of dis place ..maybe I gotta kick up a fuss so that every one gets more noisy and psyched in here ! hahahahahha

Does this include you two yourselves? I mean you feel sorry for yourselves?..... sounds a bit odd to me!



I think the message is quite clear. If you have not got the message, it is due to your pragmatic competence failure. These kind of utterances are called perlocutionary acts (the bringing about of effects on the audience by means of uttering the sentence)! We really do not feel pity for the members or even ourselves! By such a sentence it is implied that " Oh you members of this Cloob, please be active!" I do suggest you to try  to develop your pragmatic competence! Of course I really do appreciate your linguistic savvy in understanding that members of this cloob includes ourselves, too!!!

and about your poll....relationship between language and thought... don't u think this is different from a poll regarding people's interests and opinions!!! I mean ppl need to, at least, read a few articles to get some understanding of the subject! It sounds much more reasonable to me to take the other way around... I mean first hold the discussion... let ppl, if any, read (and think) about it, discuss the issue and finally put it to the vote



By starting the poll I just want the members to think about that four options. None of the members of this cloob are Psycholinguists or Cognitive Psychologists to decide on the validity of any of the four choices. The poll is a kind of warm-up for the discussion.Your suggestion about reading in the field  will not work, because it needs a lot of time and knowledge to cover,say, Vygotsky's Language and Thought or Chomsky's Language and Mind, and even if we assign such reading task, nobody will read. Anyhow, by this poll I'm not going to form a theory based on the participants' ideas!!! I just want to give the members some options to think about, then I will introduce the main theories with a simple language. And my main purpose is that in this way people can become familiar (at a basic level) with the theories in this field without reading a plethora of technical books. After all, I think all of us are familiar with the concepts of language and thought at the basic level and we can have some preliminary ideas about their relationship.

PS: I started the poll yesterday, and up to now, only four people have participated! So as you see, the members do not even have the energy to vote, let alone reading books in such a technical area!!!
